Cree, Inc. reports yet another efficacy milestone achieved with its LED die in a lab. The company says it has demonstrated a 303 lm/W white LED operating with a forward current 350mA with a correlated color temperature of 5150K at room temperature from a device with a size comparable to Cree's standard discrete LEDs. The color rendering index (CRI) was not reported. Cree reports that the result came from improvements across the board including advancements in LED chip architecture and package design, surpassing the company's previous lab-based record of 276 lm/W set just over one year ago. Cree points out that the company has reached this milestone much faster than previously believed possible.
